Zunera Privacy Policy

Last updated: 20 September 2026

Zunera turns a PDF you choose into a study pack: a summary, key concepts, flashcards, a quiz and practice questions. This policy explains exactly what happens to that PDF and to everything else the app handles.

Zunera has no accounts. You do not sign up, and we never ask for your name, email address or phone number. The app does identify itself to our server with a random device ID, described below, so that your monthly credits can be counted.

What leaves your device

The first time you build a pack from a PDF, the app registers itself with our server and receives:

When you create a study pack, the app also sends:

Nothing else is transmitted. The app does not read your files, your photos, your contacts, your location or your other documents. It only receives the single file you pick in the system file picker.

Where your PDF goes

Before your first upload the app asks for your permission to send the PDF this way, and you can withdraw it later in Settings.

1. The PDF arrives at our server, which runs on Cloudflare, where it is held in memory only. It is never written to disk and never stored in a database. 2. The server forwards it to OpenRouter, an AI routing service, as part of a single request. 3. OpenRouter passes it to the AI model that generates your study pack. 4. Once the pack is generated, the copy in our server's memory is discarded.

The PDF is sent under a generic filename, never the name it has on your phone. OpenRouter and the model provider are independent companies and process your PDF under their own terms, which may include keeping requests for a limited time. We cannot audit their systems. If your document is confidential, consider that before uploading it.

Ads

Zunera is free, and ads pay for it. It shows banner ads on some screens, an occasional full-screen ad, and lets you watch a rewarded ad to earn credits. The ads come from Google AdMob.

We ask Google for non-personalized ads only: they are not based on your interests or on your activity in other apps, and Zunera does not ask for permission to track you. To deliver and measure ads, Google may still process technical information, such as your IP address (which reveals an approximate location), device information, an identifier used for advertising, and how you interact with an ad. Google does this under its own terms (policies.google.com/technologies/ads). Ads are limited to content suitable for a general audience, rated PG or lower. In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, Google's consent form asks for your choice first, and you can open it again under Settings, Ad privacy choices.

Your PDFs, study packs and quiz results are never shared with Google or with advertisers.

When you finish a rewarded ad, Google tells our server, using your random device ID, so that the credits can be added. The server keeps a record of each reward (the date and time, the credits granted and Google's transaction number) tied to your device ID, so that a reward is counted once and the daily limit can be applied.

What our server keeps

A record for your device: the random device ID, a one-way hash of its secret (the secret itself is not stored), the date it registered, and how many credits it has used this month.

A record of each study pack attempt: the date and time, how many pages the PDF had, how many credits it cost, whether it succeeded or was refunded and why, which AI model was used, the number of tokens processed and the cost of the request. It contains no part of your document's contents and no filename.

Technical logs: our hosting provider keeps request logs for a limited time. Ours contain the same technical details as above, plus the file size and a one-way hash of the filename, never the filename itself.

Your network address: it is processed to apply rate limits. To limit how many devices can register from one network in a day, a one-way hash of the address, mixed with a secret so it cannot be reversed, is kept for 24 hours and then deleted. Cloudflare, which serves our API, necessarily sees network addresses in the course of delivering requests.

We keep the device and attempt records so that credits can be counted fairly, to understand what the service costs to run, and to detect abuse.

What stays on your device

Your study packs, your quiz results and your review progress are stored only on your phone, using the operating system's standard app storage. They are not uploaded, not backed up to us, and not visible to us.

When you pick a PDF, the system file picker places a temporary copy in the app's cache on your phone. The app removes those copies the next time it starts and when you delete your data, and the system may clear them sooner.

The app also checks Expo's update service for app updates, which necessarily reveals your network address and the app version to Expo. No document or study content is involved.

If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it. The device ID lives in secure storage and can outlast a reinstall on iPhone, which is intentional: it keeps your credit count from resetting.

Deleting your data

Settings → Delete my data removes your device's record, its whole credit and reward history from our server, and clears your packs, progress and cached PDF copies from your phone. Records are otherwise kept until you delete them. Because they are tied to a random ID rather than to who you are, we cannot look them up by name, so this button is the way to erase them. After deleting, you start over with a full monthly allowance if you keep using the app.

What we do not do

Children

Zunera is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. The ads it shows are non-personalized and limited to a general-audience content rating.

Your rights

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal basis for processing the PDF and the device record is performance of the service you requested. If you are in Türkiye, the same processing is carried out under KVKK Article 5 on the same basis. You can erase your data at any time with the button above, and you can write to us with any other request.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be published at this address with a new date at the top.
